Personalized Passport Covers and Rooftop Views at Kidde’s NYC Event
Some of the best events aren’t necessarily the biggest ones!
They’re the ones where guests actually slow down a little. Where people linger longer than expected, conversations happen naturally, and every detail feels intentional instead of overproduced.
That was very much the atmosphere at Kidde’s recent rooftop event at The Glass Ceiling in NoMad.
The evening brought together a small group of travel creators, speakers, and guests knowledgeable in the topic of CO prevention for an intimate experience centered around travel, safety, and thoughtfully curated gifting. The rooftop setting overlooking Manhattan gave the entire event a relaxed but elevated feel — the kind of NYC event that feels both polished and personal at the same time.
Our team at A Handful of Letters was invited to provide live hot foil embossing on passport covers throughout the evening.
Each cover was personalized by hand with guests’ initials in a classic serif font using gold foil. Simple, timeless, and intentionally understated. Honestly, there’s something about passport covers specifically that people get surprisingly attached to!
Guests took their time deciding on initials, watching the embossing process happen in real time, running their fingers over the finished foil, and immediately photographing them alongside the rest of the event details. In the middle of a fast-paced digital world, watching something personalized by hand still naturally pulls people in.
That’s something we’ve noticed more and more lately at events across the country.
People are craving experiences that feel tangible.
Not mass-produced. Not automated. Not something they’ll throw away the next morning!
The personalization station itself became part of the experience throughout the night. Guests circled back around the table multiple times, asked questions about the process, compared fonts and foil colors, and watched each piece being finished one by one.
And because the guest count remained intentionally intimate, every interaction felt personal instead of rushed.
That smaller scale actually created a much more elevated experience overall. Nothing felt transactional or assembly-line. Guests had time to engage, explore the different stations, and genuinely enjoy the atmosphere.
Alongside the passport covers, attendees also received a curated collection of travel-themed products and goodies, including Kidde’s travel CO alarm, luggage pieces, and other thoughtful additions that tied seamlessly into the evening’s travel-focused theme.
Everything about the event felt interactive without trying too hard.
Which is exactly why experiential events are resonating so strongly right now, especially with Millennial and Gen Z audiences. People want to feel involved in the experience itself. They want moments that feel personal, immersive, and memorable enough to actually matter after the event ends. Live personalization naturally creates that!
There’s also something refreshing about craftsmanship in luxury spaces right now. In a time where so much is becoming automated, people genuinely enjoy watching something being created by hand in front of them. It slows the energy down in the best possible way and for brands, those are often the moments guests remember most.
If you’re planning a brand activation, influencer dinner, rooftop event, luxury hospitality experience, or experiential marketing event in New York City or beyond, live personalization is one of the most meaningful ways to create interaction that feels both elevated and genuine.
