Holiday Calligraphy at Saks Fifth Avenue’s Iconic NYC Flagship

There are certain New York holiday traditions that never really lose their magic… such as the Saks Fifth Avenue holiday windows. The crowds gathering outside for the light show. Fifth Avenue glowing at night in a way that somehow still feels exciting no matter how many times you’ve seen it before.

And during the 2025 holiday season, Saks transformed its iconic flagship once again with jewel-inspired décor, dramatic displays, and sparkling window installations that made the entire store feel immersive from the moment guests walked inside.

To help kick off the season, guests were invited to personalize crystal ornaments with custom calligraphy as part of a luxury gift-with-purchase experience throughout the store and despite the excitement happening across every floor, people kept stopping for the ornaments.

Throughout the activation, guests selected initials and names to be hand lettered directly onto crystal ornaments in real time using elegant calligraphy styles designed to complement the year’s holiday aesthetic. The ornaments reflected the same jewel-inspired feeling as the surrounding décor and quickly became one of the most photographed and talked-about details of the event. There’s something about holiday personalization that people connect with immediately!

Maybe it’s nostalgia. Maybe it’s the fact that ornaments tend to stay with people for years instead of disappearing after the season ends. But guests were incredibly intentional while choosing names, initials, and gifting pieces throughout the event.

Some selected ornaments for themselves. Others personalized them for children, partners, or friends. Several guests returned later with additional purchases after seeing the finished pieces throughout the store and in a retail environment as visually stimulating as Saks during the holidays, that says a lot.

Luxury retail events have shifted dramatically over the last few years. Guests want more than beautiful products now. They want experiences layered into the shopping environment itself — moments that feel interactive, thoughtful, and personal enough to remember afterward.

Live calligraphy naturally creates that kind of atmosphere. People slow down around it. They watch the lettering form in real time. Conversations happen around the personalization table while guests compare ornament styles and discuss gifting ideas. The experience becomes part of the memory attached to the purchase itself.

That’s one of the reasons luxury brands continue investing so heavily in experiential retail and on-site personalization, especially during the holiday season and in New York City specifically, expectations are incredibly high.

There were several calligraphers and luxury activations happening throughout the store during the event, which made attention to detail and penmanship even more important. One of the things we’re most proud of as a studio is that clients regularly fly us across the country specifically because of the refinement, consistency, and craftsmanship behind our lettering and personalization work.

People notice those details. Especially in luxury retail spaces where presentation is everything.

The smallest elements often end up creating the strongest impression, the spacing of lettering, the rhythm of a script style, the way personalization complements the object itself instead of overpowering it.

That level of detail matters enormously at events like this.
