Live Hand-Engraving with The Macallan: From Grand Central NYC to Private Clubs in Florida
New York City is no stranger to luxury activations, but few brands embody craftsmanship and heritage quite like The Macallan. This fall, the legendary whisky house unveiled its Timeless Collections Experience inside Grand Central Terminal’s Graybar Passage — an immersive pop-up that ran from September 18 through October 18, 2025.
For an entire month, commuters and visitors were invited to step into The Macallan’s world, learning about the artistry of their whiskies, enjoying guided tastings, and even walking away with a bottle that felt uniquely their own. And that’s where I came in: as part of the activation, I offered live on-site personalization, engraving bottles in real time to create keepsakes that were as distinctive as the whisky itself.
Few brands carry the heritage, craftsmanship, and global recognition of The Macallan. Known for its meticulous approach to whisky making, storytelling, and education, The Macallan consistently creates experiences that invite guests to slow down, learn, and engage with the brand on a deeper level. Introducing The Macallan Through Education and Experience
The goal of The Macallan’s pop-ups and tasting events was not simply to offer a personalized bottle, but to introduce guests to the brand’s range of expressions through guided education and sampling. Guests were invited to learn about tasting notes, production methods, and the distinctions between different Macallan offerings before making a purchase.
Once a bottle was selected, personalization became the final, meaningful step in the experience.
Each bottle was hand engraved on site, allowing guests to add a name, initials, or short inscription. Watching the engraving process unfold reinforced the sense that this was not a transactional moment, but a carefully considered experience—one that aligned seamlessly with The Macallan’s values of craftsmanship and time-honored technique.
A Multi-Week Pop-Up at Grand Central Terminal, New York City
Hosting a luxury spirits activation inside Grand Central Terminal presents a unique challenge. The space is iconic, fast-moving, and filled with both locals and visitors from around the world. For The Macallan’s New York City pop-up, the objective was to create a moment of pause within one of the city’s busiest landmarks.
Over the course of several weeks in 2025, we supported the activation by engraving bottles for guests who participated in tastings and made a purchase. Being present for roughly half of the activation period allowed us to maintain continuity while adapting to daily guest flow.
Despite the scale and pace of Grand Central, the engraving experience remained calm and intentional. Guests often lingered, asked questions about the process, and shared stories about who the bottle was for, whether a gift, a celebration, or a personal milestone.

These settings offered a very different atmosphere: more intimate, member-focused, and relationship-driven. Rather than a public pop-up, these activations were designed for club members who value exclusivity and personal attention.
Hand-engraved bottles complemented the private tasting format perfectly. Guests were able to engage in conversation, learn about the whisky, and then personalize their bottle in a relaxed environment where time felt unhurried.
