Live Engraving at AWS re:Invent with MongoDB in Las Vegas

Las Vegas knows how to do scale, especially during AWS re:Invent week

When the city fills with tech teams, founders, developers, hospitality events, brand activations, afterparties, and conferences happening almost nonstop across the Strip. The energy moves fast, and brands are constantly competing for attention within an environment where attendees are seeing hundreds of activations over the course of just a few days.

Which is exactly why the experiences people remember tend to be the ones that feel personal.

During AWS re:Invent, MongoDB created an experience that felt noticeably more intentional within the middle of that chaos. Hosted between The Venetian and Sugarcane Restaurant, the activation blended hospitality, conversation, and live personalization into something that felt far more immersive than a traditional conference sponsor event.

Instead of another branded giveaway table, guests were invited into an experience that felt interactive from the moment they walked in.

For the activation, our team at A Handful of Letters provided live hand engraving on wine and whiskey glasses throughout the event, customizing each piece in real time for attendees as they selected initials, names, and personalized details directly on-site.

And despite the scale of the conference itself, the atmosphere around the engraving remained surprisingly personal.

Guests gathered around the table watching the glass engraving process happen live while conversations naturally formed around the finished pieces, lettering styles, and personalization choices. Some attendees stayed simply to watch additional glasses being engraved after theirs were completed. Others returned later with coworkers after spotting personalized glassware throughout the event.

That kind of interaction matters much more now than it used to. Technology conferences are incredibly fast-paced by nature. Attendees move constantly between panels, networking events, dinners, meetings, and activations for days straight. So when something tactile and human appears in the middle of all of that, people respond to it differently.

Live engraving slows the energy down in the best possible way.

It creates a moment people actually engage with instead of simply passing by. That’s one of the reasons on-site personalization continues working so well for tech conferences and large-scale corporate events, especially in cities like Las Vegas, San Francisco, Austin, Miami, and New York where experiential marketing has become such a major focus for brands.

Guests want experiences that feel thoughtful and interactive now. Not just another branded product tossed into a conference tote bag.

And personalized glassware works especially well in these environments because it bridges the space between professional and personal. The pieces become something attendees continue using long after the conference itself ends — at home bars, offices, celebrations, dinners, or future events.

That longevity creates a completely different kind of connection to the experience. For AWS re:Invent, we brought together a team of six artists made up of both A Handful of Letters team members and trusted colleagues we regularly collaborate with for large-scale activations across the country.

At conferences of this size, maintaining both speed and consistency is incredibly important. Every glass was still engraved live by hand on-site, even while serving hundreds of guests over the course of the evening.

That balance between craftsmanship and scale is something we care deeply about as a studio, especially during high-volume events where the guest experience still needs to feel personal from beginning to end.

Luxury live engraving for conferences isn’t simply about customization. It’s about understanding guest flow, pacing, branding, personalization timing, and how to create interaction naturally without slowing the event itself down.

Las Vegas continues to be one of the strongest cities in the country for immersive conferences and large-scale brand activations, especially within the tech industry. As events continue becoming more hospitality-driven and experience-focused, live engraving, glass etching, hot foil embossing, monogramming, and calligraphy are becoming increasingly valuable ways for brands to create moments attendees genuinely remember afterward.

The best conference activations rarely feel transactional. They feel intentional.

If you’re planning a conference, technology event, sponsor activation, hospitality experience, or experiential marketing event in Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York City, Orlando, Miami, Austin, Atlanta, or anywhere else across the country, we’d love to help create something memorable for your guests through live engraving, glass etching, hot foil embossing, leather monogramming, calligraphy, and other on-site personalization services.

We love partnering with brands, agencies, and event teams to create guest experiences that feel elevated, interactive, and genuinely personal.
